Business reporter / Executive magazine editor
Job Type: Full Time
Location: Inverness
Posted: 30th June 2026
Closing Date: 13th July 2026
The Inverness Courier - and wider Highland News & Media titles - want a passionate and driven senior reporter to head up our business content. They would join the teams in Inverness and Elgin, while also working with colleagues and communities across the broader Highlands, Moray and Shetland. While welcome in our newsrooms, once settled there will be flexibility to work from home or community spaces across our patch. They will be expected to establish themselves as the face of our business coverage - no stranger to networking events, business awards and other opportunities to connect with business leaders.
As a digital-first operation consistently analysing content performance, we understand the value subscribers place on business content - but it has to be a blend of news, features and analysis that is relatable and not bogged down in technicalities and spreadsheets. We want someone enthusiastic and passionate about connecting with the local business community who can not only look at all the key issues that are important to them, but cover them in a way that connects with everyone as human interest articles are a key pillar for our overall content strategy.
In an evolving newsroom, we need someone open-minded to fresh opportunities linked to latest technology - especially with multimedia - while forging internal relationships with departments including advertising.
With a 200-year pedigree, and never far from the awards stage, The Inverness Courier is proud to represent its communities with dedication and pride, similar to sister titles across the Highland News & Media territory - a patch which has a dedicated business magazine with a multiple-decades long history called Executive. An important brand name for us, our new business reporter would edit this product and uphold its respected position while continuing to build its reputation.
While growing contacts with business leaders will be essential, coverage would also consider impact on employees and communities - and may even have a campaigning tilt at times.
While not chained to a newsroom desk from 9-5, our business reporter will not operate alone either - with regular editorial conferences, appraisals, informal meetings, data analysis and audience engagement feedback built into a positive newsroom culture which enjoys celebrating achievements of colleagues.
This role is ideal for someone fired up to make a difference, self-motivated to uncover content that our subscribers want and with a curiosity to leave no stone unturned when investigating matters that can make an impact.
