It’s finally here – the big day has arrived! The nerves will be jangling, emotions will be high and your stomach will feel like it's on a rollercoaster.
Tempting as it is, don’t head straight for the bubbles or a wee dram to try to calm those nerves. Instead, brides and grooms should follow these top tips to ensure you arrive at your ceremony relaxed and ready to say ‘I do’!
It’s true what they say, breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. You might not feel like eating but make sure you have breakfast to keep your energy levels steady.
Try overnight oats with berries or wholemeal toast with peanut butter and honey.
Give clothing a final steam in the morning, along with your reception outfits if you are changing after the ceremony, to ensure they are crease-free.
Lay out all the accessories and elements of your day you want photographed, such as jewellery, cufflinks, invitation, vows.
Keep to the schedule you’ve agreed with your glam squad.
Make sure there is plenty of time for you and your bridesmaids to be made up and styled, including time for washing and blow-drying everybody’s hair as well as straightening, curling, pinning and adding any accessories such as a tiara, hair clasps or other decorations.
The chief bridesmaid and best man should quadruple check they have the wedding rings in a safe place before heading to the ceremony venue!
Brides and grooms should pack a small emergency kit just in case of any last-minute mishaps or you need a final polish!
Include plasters, mild pain killers and stomach relief tablets. Anxiety or nerves on the day can cause a headache or upset stomach so they will take the edge off, and in case those new shoes aren’t as comfy as your favourite fluffy slippers, plasters will temporarily take care of any blisters on your feet.
Accidents do happen so pack an instant stain remover pen, needle and thread, safety pins and also superglue – ideal for broken nails.
For those all-important final touch-ups before you walk up the aisle, prepare a small kit with hairspray or gel, hair pins, tissues, deodorant, scent, floss and mouth spray. Keep hydrated and your energy levels going by packing a small water bottle and some snacks – avoid anything that’s sticky, crumbly or will stain your teeth!
The most important tip is to breathe, relax and enjoy every moment! And if anything doesn’t quite go according to plan on the day, it’ll be a funny story to share!
